A Pennsylvania Congressman called upon the United States Government today to take steps through the United Nations to deal with the “persecution and deprivation” of Jews in the Soviet Union.

In a letter to Secretary of State Dean Rusk, Rep. Richard S. Schweiker, Pennsylvania Republican, suggested that the United States request an investigation on the status of Soviet Jewry by the UN Subcommittee on the Persecution and the Protection of Minorities
