The board of governors of the Hebrew University today approved a decision by the university’s senate to transfer the Tel Aviv branches of the Hebrew University to the Tel Aviv University. The decision was taken by a vote of 43 to 14, with five abstentions.

Dr. Eliahu Elath, president of the Hebrew University, headed those who favored the transfer, while Prof. Yoel Racah, rector of the university, led the opposition. The controversy, which has been going on for several months, reached its peak when Dr. Elath threatened to resign unless the transfer is approved. Before acting on the issue, the board of governors appointed two committees which yesterday decided to recommend the transfer.
