A statement authorized by Augustin Cardinal Bea, chairman of the Vatican Secretariat for Christian Unity, declaring that the forthcoming session of the Ecumenical Council “would confirm the declaration repudiating the charge of deicide against the Jewish people” was published in the press here today.

The statement was made by Father Schmidt, the Cardinal’s secretary. He declared that despite rumors to the contrary, no changes will be made in the text of the Declaration on Jews which clears them of the charge of “deicide.” The Council is scheduled to reconvene in September for the final session.
