Gifts totaling $280,000 for the building of a student center at the Hebrew Union College here were announced at commencement exercises. The gifts to the West Coast branch of the Reform seminary were made by Mrs. Anna Grancell, 83.

Dr. Robert Maynard Hutchins told the graduating class that the greatest contribution of the Jews to American life was the idea that education was a form of worship. He said “one hates to think what would have been the plight of American education if it had not been for the Jewish scholars and students.”
