Asher Ben-Nathan, Israel’s Ambassador to West Germany, will have his first meeting Tuesday with Foreign Minister Gerhard Schroeder and probably also next week with Chancellor Ludwig Erhard, No date has yet been fixed for the meeting with the Chancellor, however.
In a West German television interview, this weekend, the Israeli envoy discussed his former duties as director-general of the Israel Defense Ministry. In that capacity, he said, he visited West Germany several times. He also described his work in organizing the immigration of Jews to pre-state Palestine after World War II. During that time, he told the West German television audience, he collected material against Nazi war criminals, including data on Adolf Eichmann, which he turned over to authorities. Eichmann was hanged in Israel in 1962 for his war crimes.
