United States Attorney Robert Morgenthau’s office and the office of Nassau County District Attorney Cahn are both investigating the activities in the kosher meat industry of Johnny Dio, a convicted labor racketeer now associated with New York Kosher Provisions, Inc., which markets products under a brand name of “Tel Aviv.”
According to sources close to the Federal inquiry, sales of “Tel Aviv” products have been growing rapidly since salesmen for the company were reported to stress to stroeowners the fact that Johnny Dio was behind the company. The office of District Attorney Cahn has been investigating for 10 months “an attempt by organized crime led by John “Johnny Dio” Dioguardi and others to take over the kosher meat business.”
