Authoritative sources at the Foreign Ministry here said today that President Zalman Shazar is expected to meet with United States President Johnson at the White House next month during a private visit to Washington.
Mr. Shazar notified the Israeli Cabinet today that, on his way back to Israel from a trip to South America — which will take him on official state visits to four Latin American countries — he will pay a “private visit” to the United States. The Cabinet decided that, during Mr. Shazar’s absence, Kadish Luz, speaker of the Knesset (Parliament), will be the Acting President.
The itinerary for the tour, to be taken by President Shazar and a party of seven, including Mrs. Shazar is as follows: Uruguay, June 22-27; Chile, June 27-July 4; Argentina, July 4-12; Brazil, July 18-27. The President and Mrs. Shazar will rest for a few days in Uruguay between their visits to Argentina and Brazil. After visiting the United States, they are scheduled to return to Israel early in August.
