B’nai B’rith Leader Favors Separate Denominations in Judaism

Rabbi Jay Kaufman, executive vice-president of B’nai B’rith, tonight strongly endorsed the separation of Orthodox, Conservative and Reform Judaism, stating that each interpretation brings “a special flavor and focus” that stimulate the totality of Jewish life.

“I strongly oppose Jewish ecumenism if it means merger as the ferment in the Christian world implies, ” Rabbi Kaufman told the closing session of the B’nai B’rith district convention here.
