The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee will hold public hearings beginning August 1 on the constitutional amendment proposed by Sen. Everett Dirksen, Illinois Republican, to allow voluntary participation in prayers in public schools, it was announced here today.
The proposed amendment is co-sponsored by 47 other Senators. The hearings will take place for seven days. The list of persons invited to testify will be released in a few days. The Subcommittee is headed by Birch Bayh, Democrat of Indiana.
