The Rothschild family has informed the Israel Government that it cannot agree to permit the television installations it donated to enable Israel to introduce educational television to be used for general programs, the newspaper Maariv said today.

According to the daily, Lord Victor Rothschild pointed out to the Israeli authorities that the British Government had permitted purchase of the equipment free of tax on the understanding that it was to be used for educational purposes only. He was, consequently, not prepared to permit use of the equipment for general, non-educational purposes. Without these installations, Israel cannot put into effect plans for a limited schedule of general television broadcasts.
