The German Ambassador to Portugal, Herbert Mueller-Roschach, has been recalled pending an investigation by the Frankfurt State Prosecutor’s office of charges that he was involved in war crimes and the killing of Jews during the Nazi regime.

Herr Mueller-Roschach served in the German Foreign Ministry during the Nazi regime. During 1941-42 he was attached to a department dealing with foreign Jewish affairs. The present investigation is to determine what responsibility he may have had in connection with the “Final Solution” of the Jewish problem. He is suspected of complicity in the mass murder of Jews because a number of decrees concerning Nazi legislation against Jews came within his purview.
