Funeral services were held yesterday for Prof. Benzion Katz, rector of Tel Aviv University since 1964, who died over the weekend at the age of 61. They were attended by Mayor Mordecai Namir of Tel Aviv, Dr. George Wise, president of Tel Aviv University, and others prominent in arts and letters who paid tribute to the late educator. Prof. Katz was born in Galicia, Poland and taught at the University of Cracow until World War II. He was an active Zionist and settled in Palestine in 1944. He served as an educational advisor to the Jewish Agency and joined Tel Aviv University when it was founded.
