TEL AVIV (Dec. 26)
A doctor at Haifa’s Rambam Hospital reported today the successful treatment of Parkinson’s Disease, a generally incurable ailment that affects the brain cells and causes palsy.
According to Dr. Elli Faiser, head of the hospital’s neurological surgery department, he performed a three-minute brain operation which introduced frozen nitrogen to the diseased area. The low temperature killed the affected cells. Dr. Faiser said the patient on whom the experimental treatment was performed said afterward that he felt “almost new-born.”
