B’rith Abraham, a national Jewish fraternal order, opened its 82nd annual convention here today with a call for support of “law and order” and a denunciation of racists–black and white–who allegedly spread “hatred against Jews into our colleges.” Louis G. Baurer, grand master, warned in a keynote speech that “the spread of black anti-Semitism will weaken the capacity of both groups (Negroes and Jews) in their fight against the true racists of our society.” Mr. Baurer told the 400 delegates that Jews have made great contributions to the cause of civil rights but believe in “law and order, not in violent demonstrations.” He denounced the demands by some black militants for $300 million in “reparations” to be paid to Negroes, for their suffering, by white churches and synagogues.
