The University of Toronto has announced 23 courses in Judaic studies in the 1970-71 academic year, according to a report by the Canadian Jewish Congress. The courses cover a wide range of subject matter including classical and modern Hebrew on all levels, periods of Jewish history, philosophy of Judaism, pre- and post-Biblical Hebrew literature including contemporary Hebrew literature of Israel, and various aspects of Bible study. According to the report, the main credit for the introduction of these courses “goes to the youth themselves whose special committee negotiated with the chairmen of the various departments and the university authorities.” The youth were assisted in their negotiations by the CJC’s Central Region and the Canadian Culture Foundation.
