Eighty American and Canadian high school and college students will leave New York for Israel on Sept. 2, to spend a year in the Sherut La’am kibbutz program. Before leaving for Israel, they will attend a one-day orientation session here. Upon their arrival they will attend a five-day seminar before being divided into three groups and placed in Kibbutz Shoval. Kibbutz Gadot or Kibbutz Gesher-Haziv. Sherut La’am was initiated five years ago and operates under the auspices of the Jewish Agency, American Section, in cooperation with the American Zionist Youth Foundation. Its programs enable young Americans and Canadians to take part in the development of Israel and become acquainted with the social experiences of that country. Since its inception, more than 1350 young people have participated in the program.
