The Committee for Public Education and Religious Liberty (PEARL) has called on the State Legislature to reject proposals for “an additional give-away of $33 million to non-public schools.” PEARL, a coalition of 30 civic, religious and educational groups charged that Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller and the Republican legislative leaders “have again shown their contempt to the democratic process” by proposing a parochiaid bill “that is to be rammed through the legislature without exposure of its terms.”
