MONTREAL (Oct. 29)
Michel Chartrand, the outspokenly anti-Zionist president of the 65,000-member Montreal branch of the National United Syndicate, Quebec’s biggest trade union, has formed a pro-Palestinian association here. Called Quebec-Palestine, it seeks to inform the public about Palestinian problems, support the Palestinians’ political struggle, establish and correlate activities with other pro-Palestinian movements throughout the world, combat Zionism and anti-Arabism in all its forms, and maintain solidarity with all liberation organizations.
The new association is planning demonstrations to protest the expulsion of Palestinians from West Germany and against what it called an anti-Arab fury in West Germany since the Munich killings of Israeli athletes. Chartrand returned in Aug. from visits to Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. A vocal separatist, he served four months in jail last year when he called openly for armed insurrection.
