Israel is considering possible-economic and technical aid to South Vietnam, it was disclosed here today. Shimon Avimor, Israel’s Ambassador to Thailand, has met on the matter with officials in Saigon where he was invited in appreciation for his role in establishing diplomatic relations between Israel and the Thieu regime.
Avimor’s instructions were to listen but not to offer anything specific at this time, officials here said. They said more concrete talks would be held by Israel’s Ambassador designate to Saigon, Yair Aran. Aran’s appointment was officially accepted by the Saigon government this week. Israel said there have been no requests for military aid by South Vietnam.
