The Foreign Ministry denied categorically tonight recent allegations in European newspapers that Israel was involved in last month’s Cyprus coup which resulted in civil war and the Turkish invasion of the Island. A Foreign Ministry spokesman attributed the newspaper stories to a single source and said they were deliberately false and tendentious, “an example of a well-known type of misinformation.” The Ministry noted that Israel had good relations with all states involved in the Cyprus crisis and hoped that it would soon be solved by peaceful means.
