The Chen Cinema on Dizengoff Square displayed a big sign Thursday night. It said, “The Show Must Go On.” The old show biz bromide expressed the defiance of Tel Aviveans who queued up by the hundreds at the movie house where last Wednesday night a terrorist hurled grenades that killed two spectators and himself and injured scores of patrons.

Their tickets brought them a double feature–the regular movie plus a vaudeville show featuring Israel’s top entertainers that went into the wee hours of the morning. The morale-boosting show was given under the auspices of Tel Aviv Mayor Shlomo Lehat. Outside the theater, thousands promenaded around the square, giving it the aspect, except for the near freezing temperature, of a Saturday night in the spring.
