The conference of the Scottish Trade Unions Congress has taken a pro-Arab line on the Middle East. The conference adopted a left-wing motion reading: “This conference reaffirms that the situation in the Middle East is a threat to world peace. It is imperative that Israeli forces must withdraw from the territories occupied in the 1967 war in order to provide a satisfactory solution to the conflict.”

The conference further held that “the State of Israel be accorded the right to exist, and that Palestinian rights be recognized,” It also demanded that the British Labor government “take a firm stand and exercise all its power and influence for the implementation of this policy.”
