Colloquial Yiddish, long part of everyday New York speech, has finally made it as Presidential jargon. President Carter, speaking from the steps of New York’s City Hall last week before signing the government loan guarantee bill for the city, praised New York Governor Carey, saying he is “what we Southern Baptists call a real mensch.” Carey laughed heartily. Carey is in a primary contest for the Democratic Party nomination for Governor to face Republican Perry Duryea.
