Tel Aviv (May. 27)
Foreign correspondents from the U.S., Europe and Japan, at least, think the risk of war between Israel and Syria has receded. Scores of reporters and TV and radio crews who squatted in the Israeli border town of Metulla for two weeks hoping to “cover the war” have now left the town, taking their tons of equipment with them. They told hotel and cafe owners the “story” had moved away from the border as they were sure a diplomatic solution would be found to the missile crisis.
