Calling it "a ray of hope in an ocean of darkness," the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry and Long Island Committee for Soviet Jewry reported today that former Prisoner of Conscience, Dr. Mark Nashpitz of Moscow, has received an exit visa to rejoin his parents in Israel.
Nashpitz, a dentist, and eight others, including Anatoly Shcharansky had demonstrated for less than one minute in February 1977 in downtown Moscow when they were arrested. Nashpitz was sentenced to five years exile in Siberia. Upon his release he was banished to Strunino about 60 miles from the capital. The only other former POC to be permitted to emigrate in recent years, Isaac 5kolnik of Vinnitsa, arrived in Israel last month.
