Israel’s roads returned to normal Sunday morning, with the end of a 48-hour strike by gas station owners and concessionaires. Police noted a “remarkable decline” in traffic accidents during the two days–Friday and Saturday–in which motorists either did not operate their cars which had run out of gasoline or feared that they would be stuck in mid-journey with empty gas tanks without being able to refill. The station owners were protesting the government’s failure to meet their demands for increased percentages on their sales.
