Transport Minister Haim Corfu told the Cabinet Sunday he will propose legislation to make the use of seat belts mandatory for drivers in city streets as part of a campaign to reduce traffic deaths and injuries. At present, seat belts are compulsory only when driving on the highways. Corfu said he would try to get the measure through the Knesset Economics Committee for a six-month trial and hoped it would become law by November 1.
