West German President Richard von Weizsacker and Czechoslovak President Vaclav Havel will meet next week with President Kurt Waldheim of Austria, who has been largely isolated by democratic leaders since his election some three years ago.

Von Weizsacker’s office in Bonn confirmed Wednesday that the meeting, which is strictly private, will take place in Salzburg.

It was not immediately clear here why von Weizsacker decided to enhance Waldheim’s political stature and reputation by breaking the unofficial international boycott against him.

Waldheim has been accused by Jewish groups of lying about his Nazi past as a German army officer in the Balkans during World War II, at the time that deportations and reprisal killings were taking place against Jews and partisans.
