Shamir in Hospital for Tests

Former Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir was hospitalized in Jerusalem on Sunday for observation and treatment of an undisclosed ailment.

Shamir, 76, had cancelled a scheduled meeting with French President Francois Mitterrand, who was in the country last week, and had emphasized that he had done so because of illness. He added that he had summoned his physician, who prescribed pills and rest.

the hospital for further tests. The director of Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv told reporters that the Likud leader was in good condition and his illness was not serious.
