First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton and U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright visited a recently restored synagogue in Shanghai. During the visit, Albright called the Ohel Rachel Synagogue, recently restored by the Chinese government, “a sign of the changes that are taking place in China.” The Clinton administration has made religious freedom a central focus of its official state visit to China.
