With little progress so far, Israeli and Palestinian negotiators may extend the Middle East summit in Maryland past Monday, according to sources familiar with the talks. President Clinton returned to the site of the talks, where he was reportedly expected to make plain to both sides his frustration with the pace of discussions. Meanwhile, American officials denied reports that Clinton may pressure the Israeli side by threatening to recognize Palestinian statehood next May.
