Yasser Arafat hinted that the Palestinians would not hesitate from using violence if the United States and Israel “delay us from praying at Al-Aksa,” referring to the mosque in Jerusalem. A spokesman for Israeli Prime Benjamin Netanyahu said the Palestinian leader’s comments, which he made in a speech broadcast over the Voice of Palestine, were a “declaration of war on the peace process.” Arafat also warned Islamic terrorists that he would not tolerate any attacks, which he said would provide Israel with an excuse to back out of peace agreements.
