Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak asked Jewish members of Congress to stop supporting “ill-timed” initiatives, including those that would strengthen Israeli control over Jerusalem. He added that such moves could frustrate his efforts to improve the atmosphere for making peace with the Palestinians and Syria. At a meeting Tuesday with at least 30 of Congress’ 34 Jewish lawmakers, Barak “asked us not to get out in front of him and to let him have the opportunity to bring peace to the Middle East,” said Rep. Shelley Berkley (D- Nev.).
