U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell held separate talks with Israeli Prime Minister-elect Ariel Sharon and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat. During the talks, Powell called on both to end the violence and return to negotiations. He also urged Israel to lift economic sanctions it imposed on the Palestinian Authority.
