Jewish groups are criticizing Austria’s foreign minister for planning to ask the United States to remove former Austrian President Kurt Waldheim from a list preventing alleged Nazi war criminals from visiting America. The World Jewish Congress said the claim by Austrian Foreign Minister Benita Ferrero-Waldner, who is meeting with top U.S. officials this week in Washington, that recently released CIA files clear Waldheim is absurd because the files do not deal with Waldheim’s war record.
