Oligarch fears Russian ‘hit

A Russian oligarch who fled to Israel fears that he could be targeted
by assassins sent by Moscow. Leonid Nevzlin, a former manager of the Yukos
business empire who left Russia in 2003 after falling afoul of President
Vladimir Putin, recently stepped up his personal security after
receiving word of an assassination plot against him by Russian government agents, confidantes said
Thursday, confirming a report in Ma’ariv.Exiled opponents of Putin were jarred by the poisoning death in November of turncoat Russian agent
Alexander Litvinenko in London. Litvinenko, who had been a Putin critic,
accused the Russian president of ordering him killed. The Kremlin denied it.
Nevzlin said he met with Litvinenko shortly before his death.Israeli police had no immediate
comment on the assassination report.
