Argentina’s First Lady addressed the American Jewish Committee’s 101st annual meeting in Washington. Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, a senator and possible candidate for president, spoke to the group Thursday night about the government’s commitment to find the perpetrators of a 1994 bomb attack on AMIA, Argentina’s main Jewish community center, and to fight anti-Semitism in the region. Also speaking at the AJCommittee dinner were Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations; Vaira Vika-Freiberga, president of Latvia; Colombian President Alvaro Uribe-Verez, who received the organization’s “Light Unto the Nations” award; and the foreign ministers of Bosnia and India.
