Moscow facility for the needy opens

A multi-functional Jewish facility for the needy opened in Moscow.

Shaarey Tzedek, the largest center of its kind in Russia, opened Thursday in the Marina Roshcha Jewish Community Center.

The center has the capacity to serve 1,000 free meals daily and provide medical care.

Roman Abramovich, a billionaire from Russia who lives in London, provided 80 percent of the building’s funding.

Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov was on hand for the opening.
