Some 83 percent of Jewish Israelis say they plan to light Chanukah candles each day of the holiday.

Another 15 percent will light at least once over the holiday and 2 percent said they would not celebrate, according to a Ynet/Gesher Institute poll.

The poll found that 68 percent of respondents who said they were secular would light daily. The number for religious respondents was 91 percent.

When asked what the holiday symbolizes, 40 percent responded the commemoration of the Jewish victory over the Greek Hellenists; 35 percent said family; 11 percent said foods special to the holiday; and 7 percent said it was special for entertainment for vacationing children.

The poll was based on responses from 503 Hebrew-speaking Israelis.
