Rep. Eric Cantor, from Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District in the Richmond area, serves as the chief deputy minority whip for the GOP and has been rumored as a candidate for an even higher position in the party leadership. His name also was floated as a possible running mate for John McCain this summer.
