WASHINGTON (JTA) — Two senior Hamas officials were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City.
Thursday’s Air Force strike killed Hamas Interior Minister Said Siam and the head of the group’s security appartus, Salah Abu Shreh, according to media reports.
The Israelis hit the house of Siam’s brother, Ayad, after the Shin Bet received information that Said was at the location.
Said Siam, the No. 3 man in Hamas behind Ismail Haniyeh and Mahmoud Zahar, was said to be the most extreme of the three. He also led the group’s takeover of the Gaza Strip.
Hamas has not confirmed the deaths.
Twenty others reportedly were wounded in the airstrike, including six Hamas operatives.
