YU and OU enter the job market

Yeshiva University and the Orthodox Union are getting into the jobs business: YU is holding a job fair Feb. 26, and the OU has started a job posting board.

If they ever decide to go into a joint venture on a monster.com-like Web site I’m going to suggest one of the following two names: jobshatchen.com or careermacher.com.

Jewishjobs.com is already taken.

YESHIVA UNIVERSITY’S CENTER FOR THE JEWISH FUTURE HOLDS INAUGURAL JOB FAIR FOR ASPIRING JEWISH COMMUNAL AND EDUCATIONAL PROFESSIONALS ON FEBRUARY 26TH

While the current harsh economic conditions have led to a bleak employment market, there are industries and professions that have job openings, including those in the Jewish communal and educational fields.  For all those aspiring to such careers, the Yeshiva University Center for the Jewish Future is holding its inaugural Jewish Job Fair this Thursday, February 26 at 6 p.m. at YU’s Wilf Campus at 500 West 185th Street.

Hundreds of candidates, including students and alumni of YU, have already submitted resumes for consideration, and dozens of Jewish day and high schools and community organizations from across the country will be in attendance to accept and review resumes and conduct interviews.

Participating organizations include Isralight, Jewish Community Center Association of North America, National Council of Young Israel and University Jewish Chaplaincy in London.  Day schools include Akiva Hebrew Day School in Southfield, MI, Columbus Torah Academy in Ohio, Yeshivat Rambam in Baltimore, and Torah Academy of Philadelphia.  There are also numerous organizations and day schools in the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut region.

The fair is being held in conjunction with the Institute for University-School Partnership, Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration, YSU, TAC, the Career Development Center and the Jewish Social Enterprise Training.

(Please. No cracks about the irony of YU holding a job fair after laying off 60 people earlier this month.)

And from the OU:

JOB, JOBS, JOBS – NEW YORK CITY POSTS GENERAL COUNSEL, NYPD SECURITY AND OTHER POSITIONS ON OU JOB BOARD

First it was the United States Social Security Administration, seeking attorneys for their offices around the United States and calling on the Orthodox Union Job Board to post their positions. Now comes the City of New York, which has sent a variety of postings to the Job Board, including General Counsel at the Board of Standards and Appeals, with an annual salary of $100,000 up to $110,052; and Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations/ Director of Security, with a salary ranging from $60,561-$149,792., with the responsibility to manage NYPD security operations for all agency locations in the five boroughs.

Other NYC positions submitted to the Job Board include Highway Transit Specialist, Traffic Device Maintainer, and Associate Investigator.

OU Job Board Director Michael Rosner urges applicants to submit their resumes without delay. "In the case of the Social Security Administration positions, the agency was so flooded with submissions that they asked us to take down the postings," Mr. Rosner said. "We believe the same conditions will prevail with the New York City jobs. The OU Job Board has apparently become a very popular and major resource for both those posting and those looking for positions."

The New York City listings are found at www.ou.org.jobs, or you may email Mr. Rosner at jobs@ou.org.
