Mitchell, Netanyahu meet

JERUSALEM (JTA) — Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu met with President Obama’s special Mideast envoy.

Thursday’s meeting between George Mitchell and Netanyahu was described in reports as friendly. Mitchell, on his second visit to the region since being named special envoy, also was scheduled to meet with Defense Minister Ehud Barak. He had met earlier with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.

Mitchell is not expected to make any public policy statements during the trip, according to reports.

Mitchell, who had arrived in Israel directly from Turkey, is scheduled to visit the West Bank, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, France and Egypt. Earlier he had visited London.
