JERUSALEM (JTA) — Arabs in Israel and throughout the world marked Land Day with protest marches.
Thousands of demonstrators marched in Deir Hanna in northern Israel at an event attended by Arab lawmakers and political activists. Arab Knesset member Talab El-Sana warned against the rise of Israel’s right and its’ "Judaizing the Galilee and the Negev by marginalizing the Arab public."
Land Day marks the 1976 killing of six Arab-Israeli citizens during attempts to expropriate Arab land in northern Israel to build Jewish communities. The slogan for this year’s Land Day was "We are all united under Israeli fascism and racism," a clear reference to Yisrael Beiteinu Party leader Avigdor Lieberman.
Rallies were scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada, Germany, Finland, France and Belgium, according to reports.
