BERLIN (JTA) — German officials told Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman they hoped Israel would adhere to past agreements with the Palestinians.
Germany’s Foreign Ministry described the talks with Lieberman this week as "very frank," according to Reuters.
Lieberman went to Europe this week as part of his first official overseas trip as foreign minister. In Germany, he met with Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and members of Germany’s parliament.
Steinmeier reportedly told Lieberman that Germany wants Israel to continue pursuing a two-state solution with the Palestinians and that Israel should adhere to past agreements Israel made with the Palestinian Authority.
Lieberman said Israel’s foreign policy approach would be clarified in time for the upcoming meeting between Netanyahu and U.S. President Barack Obama.
While in Berlin, Lieberman also visited the Holocaust memorial and spoke to the foreign policy committee of the Bundestag.
