KIEV, Ukraine (JTA) — A new book documents the history of Jewish collective farms in the Crimea region of Ukraine.
A new documentary book “Jews: Collective Farmers” was printed in Crimea with the financial support of The Republican Committee of Autonomous Republic Crimea for Interethnic Relations and Forcibly Deported Persons.
The book contains unique documents and photos chronicling the history of Jewish collective farms and Jewish villages Roitendorf, Naileben, Naishprotzung in 1930s and 1940s, which according to some historians were the best agro companies in Crimea, as well as the former Soviet Union.
Most Jewish villagers were murdered by the Nazis and today there are Holocaust monuments, Jewish museums and Jewish cemeteries at the places where the collective farms flourished.
The authors of the book are Anatoly Gendin, president of the Association of Jewish Communities and Organizations of Crimea, and historian and journalist Nikolay Gotovchikov.
One thousand copies of the book were printed.
