JERUSALEM (JTA) — Holy books and Torah scrolls were defaced and burned at a yeshiva located at the site of the evacuated Homesh settlement.

Police suspect that Palestinians perpetrated Wednesday’s attack. The vandals ignored personal property and furniture but charred the Jewish texts, according to reports.

Homesh and three other northern West Bank settlements were evacuated in a unilateral withdrawal in August 2005, at the same time as the settlements of Gush Katif.

The Israeli army and police have not apprehended any suspects in the attack, Ynet reported.

About a dozen youths have been studying in the makeshift yeshiva even though Israeli soldiers dismantled the wooden structure several weeks ago. The vandalism occurred when the students were visiting the nearby settlement of Shavei Shomron.
