WASHINGTON (JTA) — Two Israeli soccer players were released from custody after being held under suspicion of sexual assault.
The two Hapoel Tev Aviv players, Israeli Itay Shechter and Brazilian Douglas da Silva, were released Friday, Ha’aretz reported. The pair were detained at a Swedish airport after two women said they had been assaulted. Sources say a financial dispute occurred between the players and the women, allegedly both escorts.
The players will attend a hearing in a local Swedish court to determine if they will be charged.
