WASHINGTON (JTA) — The Democratic Committee of a New Jersey township has requested that an annual festival be rescheduled to avoid conflict with Rosh Hashanah.
The festival in Bedminster, which is usually held on the third Saturday in September, coincides this year with the Jewish New Year. The all-Republican Township Committee reportedly discussed the issue informally but took no steps to reschedule the event, The Courier News reported Sunday.
"This is not a Jewish issue," said Peg Schaffer, a member of the Democratic Committee in the Central Jersey township of about 8,300 and chairwoman of the Somerset County Democratic Committee. "It is an issue of how we treat and respect one another."
