(JTA) — Poland awarded a high civilian honor to an American Jewish Committee official.
Guy Billauer, AJC’s liaison with Poland for a decade, received the Commander’s Cross of Merit from Prime Minister Lech Kaczynski during ceremonies Aug. 27, commemorating the 65th anniversary of the liquidation of the Lodz ghetto.
AJC sponsors a number of Jewish-Polish dialogue initiatives and backed Poland’s accession to NATO in 1999.
